Frequently Asked Questions
What is B@M's mission?
Our mission is to provide business development for undergraduate students. Despite receiving one of the best educations in the country, we feel that many students at the University of Michigan do not receive the proper professional help to achieve their career goals. We supply our members with the foundation for succeeding in any business sector.
I am not pursuing a BBA through Ross. Am I still eligible to apply?
Absolutely! Despite having business in its name, B@M is an open club to students of any major. We encourage students to apply no matter what they are studying.
What is the weekly time commitment associated with being an analyst for B@M?
The time commitment for an analyst varies per student. Each analyst is required to obtain 10 points throughout the semester to remain in the club. There will be 6 biweekly educational meetings worth 2 points each, and other events during the off weeks that are worth 1 point each. Despite having a minimum points requirement, we strongly feel that members get out of the club what they put in, and thus should attend as many events as possible.
What is on the application and how do I do well on it?
Our application starts with general information (name, uniqname, year, and major) followed by a headshot and optional resume. We aren't expecting perfect headshots and resumes and are expecting to work with incoming analysts on both of these things. The second half of our application contains a couple of short answer questions and an opportunity to select the topics you're interested in. For this part of the application, we encourage creativity and hope to get to know each applicant as well as possible. Due to a competitive application process, we urge applicants to be original and try to stand out through their responses.
I applied to B@M in the past but was not accepted. Am I allowed to re-apply at some point in the future?
You are allowed to re-apply, and we encourage it! Applying again shows a commitment to our organization and allows you to be better prepared for the application. If you have any questions on the decision made, please contact us at businessatmichigan@gmail.com.
How can B@M help me and my future?
Through B@M's learning program, members are enabled with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the business world. Other than learning various business topics through our learning days, B@M offers immersive and engaging professional development opportunities. We teach resume building, LinkedIn creation, interview preparation, and networking tips. Each of these skills will assist in your career and personal development, and prepare you for a future in any field.
